General guidelines for login problems:
- try another browser (Edge, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari)
- clear cache cookies
- try another device
- restart the device using the Restart / Reboot function
- try private browsing mode, the private browsing window opens with the following key commands
- Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P simultaneously from the keyboard
- Edge, Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N simultaneously from the keyboard
- uncommon solutions to login problems
- restart your router if you are sharing a connection via your router
- restart your phone if you share a connection via the phone hotspot
Are you using the correct username format? There are three different username formats when logging in to the University's services:
- the username for almost all university services is a short username (up to 8 characters long, e.g. oiolopis): Moodle, Sisu, Oma Service, campus computers, WLAN/WiFi, VPN, Zoom, Koppa (JYU Open University), JYKDOK (https://jyu.finna.fi/ choose HAKA login)
- the username + domain oiolopis@jyu.fi: https://office365.jyu.fi cloud services: MSOffice package Word, Excel, PowerPoint ... Teams and eduroam WLAN / WiFi (in the organization belonging to eduroam)
- connecting to a network drive (U: and W:) oiolopis@ad.jyu.fi
- has the browser perhaps automatically completed the email address as the username?
Is your password correct?
- if you have created a password with a password generator, check that the password does not contain any exclamation marks or "strings" ! < >
- change your password using your mobile/online banking credentials: go to https://account.jyu.fi and click on Forgot password at the bottom left of the login window
- NOTE! update your new password for all possible devices and applications that automatically log in to JYU systems or applications
- update your password also for browsers or password managers, if you use them
- Is there a course password stored in the browser's memory instead of JYU password? The course password is easily saved at the site of JYU's password.
Have you just registered a new username and can't log in?
- login to Moodle does not succeed, see next section
- if the username has been registered recently, it may take between 20 minutes and 2 hours for the username data to be transferred from the ID system to the different systems.
Why can't I log in to Moodle?
- After registering a new username, it will take about 20-25 minutes to for Moodle to log in successfully.
- If you receive a notification You seem to be Shibboleth authenticated but Moodle has no valid account for your username. Your account may not exist or it may have been suspended, when logging in to Moodle
- your username has been deactivated in Moodle for security reasons and your Moodle login has been blocked because the username has been unused for a long time
