What is the eExam?

The eExam is an electronic exam that students take independently in the eExam room. Students are free to choose the time of their eExam from the reservation calendar. The time allotted to an eExam in JYU is either 50 minutes, 1 hour 50 minutes (110 min), 2 hour 50 minutes (170 min) or 3 hours 50 minutes (230 min)

The eExam rooms are monitored with camera surveillance. Some of the workstations enable barrier-free access e.g. for students who use wheelchairs. The eExam should preferably not be the only mode of completion for the course for example due to accessibility matters. See details of accessibility.

The computers are equipped with a browser, Adobe Reader, Notepad, OneNote, Paint, UMLet, MS Word (no proof-reading), MS Excel and 7zip and provide restricted online access only to the eExam application. The use of memory sticks and e.g. CDs is prohibited.
eEXAM is available in Finnish, Swedish or English and you can change the language of the user interface after you have logged in.

The purpose of the eExam is to promote more flexible exam practices, which is a part of the University’s broader strategic objectives of supporting flexible modes of study.

The stages of the eExam

  1. The teacher adds the questions and basic exam data in the eExam application.
  2. The student signs up for the exam in the eExam application.
  3. The student receives a confirmation e-mail about the booking.
  4. The student completes the exam in the eExam room.
  5. The teacher receives an e-mail notification of a submitted exam.
  6. The teacher evaluates and grades the exam. NB! The teacher takes the result to the study register.
  7. The student receives an e-mail notification that the exam has been evaluated. The student can sign in to eExam to see the grade and the feedback.
