1. How do I get help in using ThingLink?
Digital Services has gathered instructions in the HelpJYU-portal.
In addition, ThingLink’s own help center is useful. There is a group in Facebook for news and peer support called ThingLink education.
The software can be used freely but learning to use it is the teacher’s own responsibility. ThingLink software is not hosted by the University, and Digital Services do not offer support regarding the use.
University does help with questions regarding logging in. If you have problems logging in, please read the Log in guide and if necessary, send a help request via HelpJYU portal.
2. How do I get the University license, when I log in to ThingLink?
See instructions for logging in from the HelpJYU portal.
3. Can students use the University’s ThingLink license?
Yes. Students can use the software during university courses with the guidance of their teachers. Independent working is also possible, but due to limited licenses of the software, all use must be related to studies.
Users can view ThingLinks without logging in, for example in Moodle. In addition it is possible to create a free independent account for ThingLink, if the student wants to use the software in other projects outside the university curriculum.
4. Can students view ThingLinks, if the creator of the ThingLink has chose “my organisation” from the sharing settings?
Yes. In ThingLink, the students belong to the same “organisation” as staff.
5. Can interactive ThingLink images and videos be embedded or put into websites?
A public ThingLink can be embedded to almost any website or study platform. For example, embedding a ThingLink to Moodle is possible using the embed code from ThingLink.
6. ThingLink data privacy and information security
7. Privacy regarding JYU’s own rules? For example, if students do course assignments using ThingLink?
Use ThingLink only with materials, that you could in principle put publicly available to the internet. Don’t add personal information regarding research subjects, other third parties or special categories of personal data (such as health, political opinion).
Read ThingLink’s own FAQ on information privacy.
8. How can I upload 360 videos, that have a big file size, to ThingLink?
Huge video files should be uploaded to ThingLink as base videos, not under ‘text and media’ tags. Videos inside tags can be only 25 Mb, whereas the size limit for base videos is 10 Gb. Info on upload specifications.
9. Creating own 360 videos require a special camera? Where can I borrow one at the University?
Digital Services has a 360 camera, that can be borrowed for teachers. Best way to get this camera is via submitting a HelpJYU request.
The ThingLink online library also has several 360 videos and images available for use.
