In JYU's Moodle, the settings for the new course area are set to Completion Tracking by default, which automatically adds to each activity (ie task) or material information about what is required to complete the activity or the student can click to complete the task. You can edit this with settings that affect the entire course area (all tasks / activities). You can find settings in the course area by selecting the Settings tab and under Completion tracking.
The teacher can determine from the settings of each activity (task) or material (material) whether it will be included in the completion tracking. It is assumed that students will mark their performance themselves ("Students can manually mark the activity as completed").
The completion tracking can be seen, for example, in the table of contents on the left side of the course area. If a student needs to complete a task, there is an empty circle icon in the table of contents indicating that the task is incomplete. When the task is completed, the circle is solid.
If you do not want to use completion tracking for an activity or material, you can turn it off by selecting "Do not indicate activity completion" from the Activity completion Completion tracking drop-down menu.
The student can mark the task as completed when "Students can manually mark the activity as completed" is activated from the drop-down menu.
In Completion tracking, you can also specify which all things need to be done to define a task as completed for a student. The terms also depend on what activity you are editing. For example, in the terms and conditions for tracking the progress of a assignment activity, you may require the item to be opened and graded, or the assignment to be returned, but the terms and conditions for the quiz may include using quiz attempts or obtaining the required grade.
You can also specify a date and time when the assignment must be completed.
You can also change the completion tracking settings for more than one activity at a time by selecting the More tab under the course name and the Course completion from the drop-down menu. In the page that opens select the Default activity completion tab.
On the Default activity completion tab, next select the check box for the activity you want to edit. Once selected, click the Edit button at either the top or bottom of the list.
Note that if you select more than one activity to edit at a time, you can only edit the common features of those activities in completion tracking, such as turning off completion tracking. If you want to edit all the assignments and quiz, we recommend that you first edit the settings for the assignment activity and then for the quiz.
The teacher can track the progress of the course participants by selecting Activity completion from the drop-down menu on the left side of the Reports tab in the course area. For each student's name, the teacher sees a summary of which tasks or materials the student has marked as completed or automatically marked as completed. In this way, the teacher gets an idea of the progress of the work of the whole group and can provide more guidance to those at risk of being interrupted if necessary.
On the right side of each material or activity, the student sees what stage is going on and what material or activity requires it to be completed.
If necessary, the student can also click on the assignment completed by clicking the Mark as done button on the right next to the material or activity.
Whether the conditions for completing each activity become visible to students depends entirely on what settings you add to the activity. At the end of the activities, there is a Activity completion section where you can define what is required to complete the activity.
The teacher can add a graphical Completion Progress bar to the front page of the course area, which will be visible both to the student for their own performance and to the teacher as a summary of the entire group. The bar can also show a percentage of the work done.
Here's how to add a block:
The teacher can get more detailed information about the progress by clicking the Overview of students button in the Completion Progress block. After clicking, the Overview of students page opens.

Tip: The teacher can also send a message to students who have not yet completed the assignment: for example, ask if the learner needs more guidance to progress in the performance.
