What is Eduroam and how do i use Eduroam?

Eduroam is an international roaming system that provides access to wireless networks in different university and research institute locations. Each organisation participating in Eduroam uses its own user ID to log in. This means that within the Eduroam coverage area, you can log in to the wireless network using your University of Jyväskylä username and password.

Each device must first be configured once for the Eduroam network. No other special arrangements are required.

You can check Eduroam coverage map here: https://monitor.eduroam.org/map_service_loc.php

NOTE: For security reasons, access to the university's internal network areas from the JY eduroam network is restricted.
It is recommended to always use the jyu-staff or jyu-student network in Jyväskylä and the provided eduroam network only when visiting other locations.

How to connect to Eduroam network?

Connecting to the Eduroam network is done in almost the same way as to other wireless networks at the University of Jyväskylä. The only difference is that the user ID must be given in the form käyttäjätunnus@jyu.fi (e.g. mameikal@jyu.fi). In this case, @jyu.fi does not mean an email address, but is used to distinguish that it is a University of Jyväskylä user.
