How to set up an email address?


Setting up an university email address

This guide explains how to set up a university email address for staff and students.

Note! Student email accounts can be set up before the start of the degree student's right to study at the beginning of the academic year/semester on August 1 or January 1.

 

Staff

If you are allowed to use university staff email, go to the section "Confirm email address".

 

Student

Degree student may opt to use personal email for default student email. Some other student relationships may have access to student email, you can check if it is possible by following this guide. I you do NOT have access, you can not select @student.jyu.fi email address (4th part of this guide). 

In order to access your university email, you must first verify your email address. If you are a student, you will use firstname.x.surname@student.jyu.fi and if you are a staff member, you will use firstname.x.surname@jyu.fi (where x = any letter or number). 

 

Confirm email address

  1. In your browser, go to OMA- Service https://account.jyu.fi
  2. Login to the system with your university username.
  3. To activate a staff email address or student email address, first activate M365 services under the "Services" tab and save your changes.
  4. Select Username and Email -page.
  5. Scroll down to Email- section. Check your email address from Your address will be -field. If you accept the address as it is, click the Save button. Your address is now validated.
  6. If you would like to choose one of your first names other than the one provided in the address, go to Personal info -page and choose your first name from Preferred name -menu and Save. Then return to Username and Email -page to validate your email.
  7. If you want to change the address specifier (initial), edit the initial(s) in a field where you see only initial(s). Check your email address from Your address will be -field, before you validate your address with Save -button.
  8. Enable multi-factor authentication(MFA).

 

Will the email start working right away?

Once confirmed, you will be able to log in to your email after ~30 minutes, and emails sent from outside the university can be received after ~two hours.

What do i do if there are mistakes in my name?

If your name contains misspellings or omissions, please contact Student Services (or Staff Human Resources) where the information will be corrected in the register.
