How do I take a BYOD exam?

Restricted BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) exam

For a restricted  BYOD exam launched with Safe Exam Browser, each participating student must have a computer with Safe Exam Browser installed. The suitable computer labs are listed in the "Where and how can I organize an e-exam?" guide. A restricted BYOD exam should not be organized elsewhere.

  1. Open the computer in the computer lab using your own JYU student credentials.
  2. Open a browser and log in to https://exam.app.jyu.fi/ with your JYU student credentials.
  3. Download the exam SEB (Safe Exam Browser) launch file from the EXAM Registration view.
  4. When given permission by the examiner, launch the exam by clicking on the launch file. If the exam has already started, retrieve the launch file from your email.
  5. Open the launch file, and the application will prompt you for a password, which you will receive from the supervising teacher of the exam session.
  6. After entering the correct password, log in to EXAM normally with your own username and password.
  7. Safe Exam Browser "takes control" of the computer, preventing access to any other programs or resources on the computer except for EXAM.
  8. Answer the questions, and when you are finished, submit the exam normally by clicking the "Save and submit exam" button.
  9. If you want to interrupt the exam, click the "Interrupt" button.
  10. You will receive an exit link that, when clicked, releases the SEB restrictions, and the computer is available for normal use again.
  11. Follow the exam instructions thereafter: identify yourself to the exam supervisor, confirm that you have submitted the exam. The supervisor will verify that the exam has been submitted.
  12. You can leave the exam session.
