When your employment or studies at the University of Jyväskylä end, it is important to ensure that saved files and documents are securely transferred to your personal computer. This guide will help you save files stored in OneDrive to your computer using both the browser and the desktop application.
1. In your browser, go to: https://m365.cloud.microsoft/onedrive/?auth=2
Log in with your university Microsoft account which is username@jyu.fi
2. After you sign in, OneDrive will open. Navigate to your files from the "My files" section on the left-hand side of the page.
3. You can select the files you want one by one or you can select all of what My Documents contains. Once you have selected the files you want to be saved, click on "Download". The files will be downloaded by default to your C:- drive in the Downloads- folder. If you select only one file to download the file will be in the normal format e.g. .docx, however if you select multiple files to download you will get a .zip file i.e. a packed file. Extract the file and you will have access to the files. The speed of downloading files to your computer depends on your network connection and the size of the files.
Open the file explorer on your computer and go to the Downloads folder. Select the .zip file and click Extract all. Select the location to which you want to extract the .zip file. By default the folder will be extracted to the same location as the .zip file, in this case the Downloads folder.
1. Open OneDrive from the toolbar in the bottom right corner. OneDrive looks like a blue cloud. Windows computers should have OneDrive installed by default, but if you can't find the app on your computer you can install it here: https://www.microsoft.com/fi-fi/microsoft-365/onedrive/download
2. Click on the cloud icon and log in with your university Microsoft account which is username@jyu.fi. Sync your OneDrive files. You will see a picture of a sign when your files are synced. Open the folder by clicking on Open folder at the bottom of the page.
3. The program will open the file explorer and from there you will see the folder named Jyväskylä University with a blue cloud in front of it. From here you can copy files to another folder by dragging the file with the mouse or by copying the file with Ctrl + C and pasting the file to the desired location with Ctrl + V.
