You might need your computer name for an IT service request or reporting an incident.
Note! This instruction concerns staff computers or public computers use at the University (lobbies, classroom computers).
You can check the computer name in several ways.
Sticker
Look for a sticker on the side or bottom of the computer. All University computers should have a sticker with the computer name.
Settings
- From the Start menu, open Settings.
- Open System.
- Open the About- tab.
- Read the name under Device name.
Command line
Open command line and type hostname. Press Enter. Computer's name will be printed in the console.
You can also find out the name of the computer by:
- In the Start menu, type cmd and select Command Prompt. At the command prompt, enter hostname.
- Open the command prompt as described above: enter ipconfig /all and read the Host name section.
- In the login window, replace the username with .\ and under the password in the Sign in to section you will see the name of the computer.
