VPN connection using Linux desktop

With a VPN connection program, you can connect to the university network and thus remotely access various services that are directly connected to the university network. For example, a VPN allows you to access network disks (such as a U drive) from a home computer.

Primary method:

Download the Cisco AnyConnect program from the link below by logging in with the username of the University of Jyväskylä. Choose DEB if your linux is based on Debian, choose RPM if your linux is based on RedHat/RPM.

Using VPN connection

Once you have installed the selected installation package, start the VPN program, Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client, and enter the appropriate address in the Connect to -field on the VPN tab:

Continue by pressing Connect

Enter your JY username and password in the Username and Password fields. IF you see the Second password -field, this VPN connection uses the DUO Mobile app for multi-factor authentication. Enter either the word “push” or a 6-digit code from the DUO Mobile app in the Second Password -field. Once all fields are filled, click Connect.

If you do not yet have DUO Mobile, you can enroll it following these instructions How do I setup DUO Mobile

The VPN connection will be established shortly.

Remember to disconnect when you finish working or no longer need the VPN connection by opening the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client program and clicking the Disconnect button on the VPN tab.
