How do I change my password?

The password for your username can be changed in OMA - Personal information management - service

• login with your username and current password, and go to page 'Change password'
• if you do not have or remember your current password, you can go to OMA login page and at the bottom of the page use link 'Forgot your password?' to authenticate with Finnish net bank authentication or Finnish operator MobiiliID and set a new password.

Password change is effective immediately and password is changed to all University of Jyväskylä services eg. SISU, Moodle, library eMaterials.

What would be a good password?

Do not use university username and password in any web/internet services outside university.
Choose a complicated password that is impossible to guess (not parts of your own or friends’ names, pets, birthdays etc.) but still easy to remember. 

• Password must be at least 20 characters long. It is recommended to use passphrases.

    Simple character series such as abc, 123 or repeating the same word multiple times should be avoided.

    Do not use the same password in any other service.

    Allowed characters are a-z A-Z 0-9 _ , . ; : ( ) { } + ? = # % & / * ' and space.

 

• We recommend putting the numbers and special characters in the middle>OF=the9password.
• Password can be multiple words long passphrase.
• Simple character series such as abc, 123 should be avoided.
• Not a single dictionary word in any language, not even backwards.

How often should I change password?

We do not enforce regular password change. We recommend changing your password a couple of times per year. Never use the same password in other services. If you suspect your password has leaked or other misuse of your user account, change your password at once.
