There are three different wireless network which you can use with your university user account::
- jyu-student for students on the JYU campus
- jyu-staff for staff on the JYU campus
- eduroam is available to students and staff not only on the JY campus, but also on campuses of various universities around the world. For more information on eduroaming:
Note! Always use the jyu-student or jyu-staff network on the University of Jyväskylä campus!
jyu-student and jyu-staff networks require the settings described below. Ubuntu has been used as an example. Menus may differ on other Linux distros.
in the case of eduroam, the same settings work otherwise, but the username must always be given as käyttäjätunnus@jyu.fi (esim. mameikal@jyu.fi).
The easiest way to configure eduroam is to download the installer file with the correct settings from https://cat.eduroam.org/ (Click on the button "eduroam user: download your eduroam installer" and select "University of Jyväskylä" as your organisation. Select "Linux" as operating system and install the file).
Wireless network settings
1. Select wireless network you want to connect
- jyu-student (students)
- jyu-staff (staff)
- eduroam (students and staff, check more from What is Eduroam and how do i use Eduroam?
2. Set preferences as follows:
- Wi-Fi security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
- Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
- Anonymous identity: (leave empty)
- CA certificate: [v] No CA Certificate is required
- Inner authentication: MSCHAPv2
- Username: JYU username (NOTE! When connecting Eduroam username must always be given as username@jyu.fi (eg. example@jyu.fi).
- Password. JYU user account´s password
Below examples of two most common linux desktop environments network settings.
After settings preferences click Connect/OK and wireless network should connect automatically.
Optional 2. if you want to use CA certificate, set preferences as follows:
- Wi-Fi security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
- Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
- Anonymous identity: (leave empty)
- CA certificate: GEANT OV RSA CA 4
- Inner authentication: MSCHAPV2
- Username: JY:n käyttäjätunnus (NOTE! When connecting Eduroam username must always be given as useraccount@jyu.fi (esim. mameikal@jyu.fi).
- Password. University user account´s password
