How do I connect a network drive to my Windows computer?

Windows 11

VPN allows remote access to the university's network disks (e.g. U, W and S drives).

If you have not yet set up a VPN connection for your use, please see Installing and connecting vpn on Windows

To connect to a network drive, you need to know the address of the network drive. The addresses of the most common network drives are:

U-drive: \\fileservices.ad.jyu.fi\homes\username

S-drive: \\fileservices.ad.jyu.fi\commonshare

W-drive: \\karahka2.cc.jyu.fi\username

If network drive is missing, firstly restart your computer and try to access network drive again.

After restart connect VPN

Open network drive by clicking folder icon from Windows taskbar.

Folder icon

Then select "This PC" from the left sidebar and from the top toolbar you will find three dots.

Select "Map network drive".

After this select right settings for the network drive to be used

If you ticked the box: connect with different credentials, program will ask you to enter your username and password in the next step. This may require additional clicks on 'More options' and 'Use another account'. Enter the University of Jyväskylä username in the format username@ad.jyu.fi or username@jyu.fi and the password as normal.

If you get a message that the disk is already in use, restarting the computer will usually help. If not, open the command prompt as follows:

Windows 10
