You need the free WinSCP software for your computer. Download WinSCP. On university workstations WinSCP is already installed and you can find it from the start menu.
You will also need to activate your Unix peer-to-peer server logins in Oma - Personal information management, under the Services tab. The activation will take effect in about half an hour. If you are creating web pages on the users.jyu.fi server, please also activate the Home page mode (users.jyu.fi)
More information about activation.
1. Open WinSCP. In the window that opens, fill in this information:
2. Click Login. On the first connection, the program will ask for confirmation from the unknown host key. Click Yes in the question box, and the connection to the server will be established.
3. Next, the Authentication Banner appears on the screen. Click Continue in this window, and you will see the structure of your university home directory. You can also click "Never show this banner again.", which will cause this window to no longer be displayed for future logins.
4. In the WinSCP main view, you will see the directory structure of your computer on the left and your university home directory on the right. To transfer files and folders from your computer to the University home directory, select the file or folder and click the Copy button on the bottom bar.
If you want to transfer files to your own web directory (users.jyu.fi/~username), you can do this by double-clicking on an empty area in the address bar and changing the Open Directory in the next window that opens to /autohome/nashome... and replace it with
/wwwhome/home/your/username/public_html
The WWW directory can also be linked to your home directory. For instructions on how to create a link, see Transferring your home directory to a web server.
5. Finally, you can disconnect by simply closing the program.
