How do i set up Duo Mobile?

The purpose of this guide is to guide you through the installation of Duo Security's mobile application that provides two-factor authentication to University systems. You will need the app to access those University services that require multi-factor authentication.

Multi-factor authentication with Duo Mobile is device-specific. If you change your phone for a new one, you can replace the old one from the Duo Mobile device management portal: https://jyu.login.duosecurity.com Note! You will need an old phone to accept the login to the management portal.

If you lose or break your phone, you will have to start the Duo Mobile installation from the beginning. In this case, the Duo MFA must first be reset. You can reset Duo Mobile multi-factor authentication yourself:

Step 3: Install Duo Mobile

The actual authentication is done with a mobile app on your mobile phone. On your phone, go to your operating system specific store (either the App Store or Google Play Store) and install the "Duo Mobile". Once you have installed the app, click the Next button.

Note! When downloading Duo Mobile to your smartphone or tablet, make sure your operating system version is new enough (Android 11 or newer, iOS 16.0 or newer) and that you have enough space (Android 30 MB and iOS 31.8 MB).

Step 4: Activate Duo Mobile

Activate Duo Mobile by scanning the QR barcode (note: not the QR code in the help image) on the screen with the barcode reader in the DUO app. Open the Duo app from your phone and press "Use a QR code".

The application opens a camera that you need to point at the barcode displayed on your computer screen. Once the barcode is read, the application will move to the next screen, which will display the number you will use to verify your login.

Scan QR-code

Let's continue the installation for a while on the phone. If you wish, you can enter a name for the new account. By default, the name is JYU. Once you have named your account, press "Save".

Next, the Duo Mobile application suggests that you practice using Duo Mobile. You can choose to practice or skip it by selecting "Skip".

Allowing notifications will put the authentication request in the "notification menu" of your phone where it will be faster to accept it. It is recommended to select "Allow notifications".

Once the barcode has been read, press "Continue" in the browser (the button becomes active once the barcode has been read).
