How to troubleshoot missing or malfunctioning network drives

How to troubleshoot missing or malfunctioning network drives

University network drives work only in campus network. If you are away from campus network, you need VPN connection to campus network (guide Win, guide Mac).

If you use other VPN software in addition to Cisco AnyConnect (like Freedome or NordVPN) try switching that VPN off for duration of your network drive use. Multiple VPN do not work at the same time and prevent accessing network drives.

University laptops have Cisco Sign-In Before Login option. You can connect VPN to campus network before logging in computer. If you need VPN connection after starting your computer: when computer asks for username and password, click leftmost icon at down right corner of your screen

login VPN, and login computer after that. This way an automatic mapping of network drives during login becomes possible.

If your S:-drive is missing or not functioning correctly, please check the following:

1. Is your Internet connection turned on? If not, please turn it on.
2. If you are not at campus, is your VPN-connection to campus network on? If not, please connect campus network vpn.jyu.fi
3. If your S:-drive is visible on your File Explorer, but it give you an error message -> Try to enter the address manually to your File Explorer

\\fileservices.ad.jyu.fi\commonshare\

4. Try restarting your computer.

5. If the drive is still not working and the S: drive is visible in the File Explorer, it is recommended to remove the S: drive completely from the File Explorer. To do this, right-click on the S: drive and select "Disconnect". Then try opening it again with \\fileservices.ad.jyu.fi\commonshare. If you want the S: drive to be permanently visible, the network drive mapping function is used here:
