How do I activate email on my personal iOS phone?

We recommend that you enable email in Microsoft's own application in Outlook. You can also use other email applications. However, this guide concerns the deployment of email in Outlook.

If you have not yet used the email service provided by the University, you can do it the OMA- service.

The introduction of email also requires the deployment of an MFA (Multi-Factor Authenticator). Instructions for installing MFA:

Deployment of Microsoft MFA

If you already have MFA installed, but you have bought a new phone on which you want Outlook and MFA to be installed, please enable MFA on the new phone as follows:

Installing the Outlook application:

1. Open the Apple App Store on your phone. Find the Outlook app.

Note! The Apple App Store always suggests another app first, which may be a paid app. Make sure you choose the right one. The picture shows an example:

The picture shows Apple's App Store. From there, search for the Outlook app using the search box at the top of the page. The first thing to suggest is another app so make sure you select the Microsoft Outlook app.

2. Click on the "GET" button.

Note! If your phone is new and you are using the App Store for the first time, the app will ask you to update your Apple ID. Many people get scared at this point because it asks for payment information. However, you can leave this field blank, but it is mandatory to enter your home address and phone number. If you have used the Apple Store before, the app will ask for your Apple ID password or facial recognition, access code, etc. to confirm the download. Confirm the download.

3. It takes a while to download the app, depending on your phone's internet speed. Once the app has downloaded, an "Open" button will appear --> click "Open".

4. Enter your Microsoft account which is username@jyu.fi, in the blank field. Once you have entered the address in the blank field, the "Add account" button will appear as active --> Click "Add account".

Student NOTE! Your email address can be in a longer format such as name.t.lastname@student.jyu.fi and a shorter format such as username@student.jyu.fi. However, for Outlook and other Microsoft 365 services, log in with the University's Microsoft account username@jyu.fi. Your emails will still be forwarded to @student.jyu.fi.

The picture shows Microsoft Outlook. In the empty field, add the University's Microsoft account and click "Add account".

5. The Outlook application will then transfer you to the University of Jyväskylä's Microsoft 365 login platform. Enter your password and click "Sign in".

The picture shows Microsoft Outlook, which is now on the University of Jyväskylä's Microsoft login platform. Enter your password in the blank field and click "Sign in".

6. The application will then send you an Authenticator approval request. Go to the Authenticator application, put the number you see on the screen in the empty field and click "Yes". If necessary, also enter your phone's access code (you can disable this function by following this instruction).

The picture asks you to open the Authenticator application in order to accept the login to Outlook.

7. Once you have accepted the sign-in, Outlook will ask you if you want to add another account with your current one. Select "Later".

8. You are now logged in to Outlook app. A request to accept notifications will appear on the screen. It is recommended that you accept these so that you will be notified when a new email message arrives. Click on "Enable" to accept the notifications. If you have a lot of emails, it may take a few moments for the application to load all messages.
