Disk quotas are used in different systems.
Student disk quotas will only be increased if the studies require it, and this requires the opinion of the relevant teacher (pro gradu supervisor, etc.) (teachers: please tell us which course, how much disk space is needed and for how long).
Staff disk quotas will be increased on reasoned request within reasonable limits. Even unreasonable requests may be granted if the institution concerned is prepared to pay the full cost.
Requests can be made as a service request at the HelpJYU service desk. Home > Services & Guidance> Software, devices, technical support > Technical support > IT support request.
Disk quotas on Unix systems often have two separate limits: a quota, which is the maximum disk space a user can use, which can be exceeded momentarily, and a limit, which cannot be exceeded. Two different disk limits are used to facilitate file handling when the disk quota is almost full. The disk space consumption can exceed the quota limit, stylistically, for up to a week. Disk quotas are indicated below, separated by a slash: quota/limit. If only one limit is given below, it should be interpreted as meaning that quota and limit are equal (no temporary overrun is allowed).
Disk space limitations are used in IT services as follows:
unix home directory (U disk in AD micro network): 500 MB (students) / unlimited (staff)
