What should be recovered from the workstation?
- C:\MyTemp
- The directory is located on the local storage of the workstation and the installation of the workstation will destroy the contents of the directory.
- Copy your important files to your home directory! (see "Where to save your files" below)
- Watch the Moniviestin video on backing up the C:\MyTemp folder (opens in a new tab)
- Chrome and Firefox bookmarks need to be backed up manually
- Browsers save their settings locally on the workstation, so they are not transferred from one workstation to another.
- Google Chrome and Firefox data can be transferred using Google login and the Firefox sync service.
- More detailed instructions on how to synchronise bookmarks and settings:
- Licences for software installed on the workstation, not sourced from IT services
- USERS OF LAPTOP COMPUTERS
- VERY IMPORTANT: If you have been using your home directory offline, i.e. the home directory works without a network, check that the files in the home directory are synchronised to the network drive.
- Watch the Moniviestin video on syncing files (opens in a new tab)
Where to save your files?
The home directory, i.e. the U- drive on University workstations.
Home directories are backed up regularly. Your home directory is not accessible to anyone else and your files are safe. You can also access your home directory from home using a VPN connection
