What should I do if I change my phone?


Today, the phone is part of everything we do and part of our daily work. Our phones are used to read emails, join Teams meetings, remind us about calendar activities and confirm multi-factor authentication logins, among other things. When replacing your phone when it breaks or reaches the end of lifetime, these tips will help you set up your new phone.

Data transfer

You can transfer specific data like your phone numbers using your SIM card, your Google account or the Samsung Smart Switch app (Android). If you want to transfer all your data from your old phone to your new one, it is recommended to use the Samsung Smart Switch app, which allows you to transfer photos, phone numbers and files all at once.

On Apple phones, the best way to transfer data is to back up the data on your Apple ID account, where you can choose what data is backed up from your old phone to your new one.

Deploying of Multi-Factor Authentication

Enable Microsoft Authenticator and Duo Mobile MFA (Multi-factor authentication) on your new phone.

Microsoft Authenticator

Microsoft's MFA solution is used to sign in to Microsoft services and services that use Microsoft sign-in, for example Eduhouse. If you still have your old phone, you can transfer the Microsoft Authenticator app to your new phone using these instructions:

If your old phone is broken, lost or has already been reset. You can install the Microsoft Authenticator application on your new phone by first resetting the MFA OMA service: https://account.jyu.fi

After successfully resetting your MFA, start the installation of the Microsoft Authenticator app on your new phone using this instruction:

Duo Mobile

Duo Mobile is used for authentication when logging in for example to Mepco and Certia. If you still have your old phone, you can transfer the Duo Mobile app to your new phone using these instructions:

After successfully resetting your DUO MFA, start the installation of the Duo Mobile app on your new phone using this instruction:

Deploying email

Before using email, check and, if needed, update your phone with the latest software version.

After updating your phone, download the Outlook email client from the Google Play Store or Apple Store. Sign in to Outlook using the University's Microsoft account tunnus@jyu.fi Email setup instructions (Android & iPhone):
