Common features for groups and email lists
- Only users with a Jyväskylä University user account can be added to groups.
- The group and the email list have an administrator who will be informed when you order the email list.
- Administrator rights for both the group and the list can be added or removed.
- Sender rights for the list can be customized on a per-user basis.
- You can also allow communication from the address viestinta@jyu.fi to send messages to the list.
- You can choose that the list appears in Outlook’s public address book.
- Error message handling
- You can decide whether error messages are sent to the list administrator or the message sender.
- Mass actions
- You can choose whether messages are sent without approval or if the list administrator or group administrators act as approvers.
- Mass modification of sender rights for the list: You can allow sending from Jyväskylä University addresses or all addresses.
- Note: If you select all addresses, approval is required either from the list administrator or the group administrator.

- The group has an end date that can be modified; this end date also determines the email list end date.

Microsoft 365 groups
A Microsoft 365 group is a tool that allows a team or group to communicate and collaborate. The group provides a shared email address and calendar, and is particularly useful for communication between multiple people.
What functions does the group provide?
- Shared mailbox (Outlook)
- Shared calendar
- Mailing list that can be used to send emails with group's address
Use cases
M365 groups are intended for internal or external communication within the university, especially when communication is also made to external people who are involved in university activities but do not have their own JYU user accounts.
