You can share text and video files as well as images from Nextcloud in a mode in which the recipient gets to view and stream them but cannot download them. Note that when sharing text files in this manner, they need to be in PDF format. Convert any Word files to PDF before sharing.
This is how to share data in non-download format:
1. To create the share link, click the icon to the right from the folder or file that you want to share. You can share multiple files simultaneously in view-only mode by sharing the entire folder in this way:
2. If you are sharing the data with another University of Jyväskylä Nextcloud user, type their name in the address field and click Enter. If the recipient is not a JYU Nextcloud user, type their email address in the address field. Then, click enter to create the link:
3. Click the three-dot icon to the right from the recipient’s name or address to open the sharing settings menu. As a default, the menu offers Read only mode and an automatically generated password:
At this phase, Nextcloud automatically sends a notification in your email containing the password. If you do not need the password, you can uncheck it to remove it, and ignore the automatic email notification:
4. Check ”Hide download”. Now the recipient can view the files but cannot download them:
5. If needed, you can further set an expiration date to the share, as well as add a note to the recipient:
6. The recipient can now access the data in view-only mode from the share link:
