Sending files with Funet FileSender

The guide tells you how to send large files via Funet FileSender instead of an email attachment.
FileSender is a file transfer service provided by Funet to its users, which can also be accessed with the University of Jyväskylä username via HAKA login. With FileSender you can send files of up to 50 gigabytes from one user to another.

This is how you send a file:

1. Drag and drop the files you want to the area at the top of the page or click “Select Files” to open the file selection window. You can transfer multiple files at once!

2. Enter the recipient’s email address in the “To:” field. You can also write a subject and message text, but these are not mandatory. Note! These fields will not be visible if you have selected the option “Get a link instead of sending to recipients” - in this case, FileSender will not send emails but will display a download link after the transfer is complete, which you can send to the recipient in any way you prefer.

3. Set the desired expiration date for the file transfer in the “Expiry Date” field. After this date, FileSender will delete the files transferred to the server, and they can no longer be downloaded. The file transfer can be valid for up to about three weeks. By default, FileSender sends a separate email to the recipient of the file transfer, but if you want just a link, for example, to copy into a HelpJYU support request, check the box “Get a link instead of sending to recipients”.

4. Accept the terms of use by checking “Accept terms of Usage”. You can read the terms by clicking “Show/Hide”.

5. Click “Send” to start the file transfer.

FileSender shows the progress of the file transfer at the top of the screen. You can temporarily pause the transfer by clicking “Pause” and stop it completely by clicking “Stop”.

View sent files

To view your transfers that are still valid, click on "My Transfers" at the top of the page.

The most relevant points in this view are highlighted in red:

"Visitor ticket" for the file transfer service

The Guest Voucher feature allows you to offer a non-HAKA authenticated visitor user the possibility to send the files they want to the specified recipients.

First click "Guests".

1. Enter the recipient’s email address for the visitor ticket in the “To:” field. If you wish, you can also write a subject and accompanying words in the same section.

2. Define the expiration date for the visitor ticket (if you select “Does not expire,” the ticket will have no expiration date).

You can also change a few other settings, for example:

Some additional options are hidden and will appear by clicking the “Advanced settings” links.

3. Click “Send Voucher”. The recipient will receive an email with a link that allows them to send files in the same way as HAKA-logged-in users.
