How to set up and connect to a VPN on smartphone


A VPN connection creates a secure network connection, for example when you are on a work trip using a local WiFi connection, the data security of which you cannot be sure of. In addition, some JYU services require that they be used from the JYU network, VPN creates a connection to the JYU network.

Install the Cisco Secure Client-AnyConnect application from either the Play Store (Android/Samsung) or the App Store (Apple/iPhone).

After installing the app, launch it.

 

When using the application for the first time, there is no connection, as the VPN server address must be specified first.

 

1. Tap the "Connections" icon

 

2. Let's create a connection to the server.

Tap the plus symbol on the blue background to add a vpn server to your use.

 

3. Let's define the connection information

In the "Description" field, enter a freely chosen description of the connection.

Enter in the "Server Address" field: vpn.jyu.fi

Tap "DONE" on the bottom right of the screen

 

4. Return to the main page of the application by tapping the left arrow in the upper right corner

 

5. Now you can start the VPN connection to the vpn.jyu.fi service. Tap the "lever" on the gray background to initiate the connection.

 

6. VPN connection selection

Select the VPN network you are using from the service. Use the "staff" connection to handle staff tasks.

To log in, use the JYU username in its basic form, as well as the JYU password, just like when logging in to a computer.

The Second Password field is used for multi-factor authentication with the Duo Mobile application. Enter push in the field.

Tap "Connect" on the bottom right and the connection will start.

 

7. The connection is enabled

Now the beginning of the AnyConnect VPN text on the main page will change to a blue sign of a connected connection.

There will also be a small key symbol at the top of the screen as a sign of a working connection.
