Interaction tools in Zoom

Microphone and Camera

All participants have the possibility to open the microphone or the camera unless you specifically adjust this.

Tips:

Chat

Especially if the group is large, it is often smoothest to collect questions and comments via chat.

Tips: the teacher can also use chat as a communication channel in pair teaching by sending private messages in chat: e.g. to agree on a new division of work or give tips during the process. Likewise, if necessary, you can give guidance to an individual student.

By default, messages are Everyone, but you can click on the arrow button at the end of the field to select the person you want to send a private message to:

Vote: Yes / No

The teacher can quickly assess the opinion or support of even a large group: for example, whether to discuss something in more detail. In the Participants view, participants can click Yes/No buttons, which are visually represented in red or green colors, indicating yes/no responses.

Advantage: the teacher can quickly see a summary of the answers. The participant can delete the contribution and if it is forgotten it can be switched on for the next round, but if necessary the teacher can click on the Clear all button on behalf of the participants.

In the Participants view, the participant can also give other feedback, for example:

Polls

Note: only the host that set up the session will be able to make polls! Therefore, if you want to make polls, create a session yourself and do not use a session created by a colleague.

Constructing the poll:

The host can do a simple poll beforehand (or during the session) with a multiple-choice question: choose one or many.

When the survey is open to respondents, you will see the title in green and a mention: "Attandees are now viewing questions ".  You can see the responses in real time: the percentages are changing and the number of respondents per option.

Finally, click End polling

Hand raise and other feedback: Reaction button

Hand raise is handy: for example, when asking for permission to speak or if the teacher asks for opinions on something. The Yes / No buttons are also useful.

The participant can also give other feedback such as applause, thumbs up, hearts etc. This feedback will be displayed for about 10 seconds and will be automatically disappear.
