The Turnitin LTI activity will be introduced alongside Turnitin Assignment 2 in Moodle at the beginning of 2026. Starting from the academic year 2026-2027, Turnitin Assignment 2 will no longer be available for submissions, but reports will still be available for viewing. The use of Turnitin Assignment 2 will end completely at the end of 2026.
If you are using Turnitin Assignment 2 in your course area, we recommend replacing it with Turnitin LTI as soon as possible. The functions in Turnitin LTI, including Feedback Studio, are the same as in Turnitin Assignment 2.
Another alternative to Turnitin Assignment 2 is to use the Assignment or Exam activity and Turnitin Integrity. There will be no changes to Turnitin Integrity in the Assignment and Exam activities.

Adding Turnitin LTI to a Moodle course area
- Edit mode on, + Add activity or resource and select Turnitin LTI from the activity list.

2. You can add a completely new activity or import the settings and content of a Turnitin assignment you created earlier into this new Turnitin LTI. There has been some challenges in using this feature.
Turnitin LTI activity settings
- Give the activity a name
- Add instructions for the submission on the Activity description field.

- Check at least the Grade setting. The default setting is points and a maximum grade of 5, which works well on a scale of 0-5.
- Save. After saving, there is usually a slight delay before Turnitin LTI opens in the course area.

- Additional settings are located behind the settings icon, i.e., the gear icon, on the right. Click on the settings icon.

- If you need to change the Title or Instructions go to Settings.
- Set the Start Date, Due Date, and Feedback Release Date, and check the highest grade.
- The Feedback Release Date is the date when the Turnitin report will be available for viewing. If, as a teacher, you want students to see the report shortly after submission, the Feedback Publication Date should be the same as the Start Date. The time must be at least one minute after the Start Date.
- If you are using the Peer Mark tool, i.e., peer review, activate PeerMark. More detailed instructions on how to use it can be found in the Turnitin.com instructions.
- Then select Optional settings at the bottom.

- In the optional settings, first set the submission settings.
- The most important setting is whether or not to permanently store texts in Turnitin's Standard paper repository.
- If you do not want, for example, regular learning assignments to be stored there, select Do not store submitted papers.
- You can also attach a rubric for assessment.

- Next are the Similarity Report settings.
- If you want the report to be generated immediately after submission and not be editable, select the default option Create reports immediately.
- If students can submit multiple files until the deadline, i.e., the Submission date, then Create reports on the submission date is a good option.
- If you want students to see the similarity report, select Allow students to see similarity reports.

- The Compare against settings can be used to edit settings related to similarity comparisons.
- For example, if a template has been used in the submissions, it can be "filtered out" by uploading the template to the Leave assignment template out section.
- Finally, there is a useful option in the settings that allows you to save your Turnitin LTI settings for later use. In this case, Turnitin LTI saves the settings you have saved for the assignment so that they become the default settings for new Turnitin LTI assignments.
Grading student submissions and reading the report

- The Assignment inbox tab contains a list of students and the files submitted for the activity. Students always submit their own files to the Turnitin assignment.
- The menu at the end of the submission row contains actions related to the submission
- The instructor can delete a student's submission if they wish.
- The instructor can also request that a file permanently stored in Turnitin's standard archive be deleted. Deletion requests are sent to Turnitin support in the UK for deletion, so we urge you to use discretion when making deletion requests. Teachers can always filter sources in their own view, e.g., for a previously submitted version.

- You can view the details of the Turnitin report by clicking on the similarity percentage, i.e., the coloured ball icon, in Feedback Studio.

- In the Feedback Studio, the teacher tools are located to the right of the text.
- The blue tools are related to assessment, and the red tools are related to similarity analysis.
- At the bottom is the AI text recognition tool, which currently only works with English, Spanish, and Japanese texts.
- There are separate instructions for using the Feedback Studio tools.

Analytics tab
The Turnitin LTI activity also has a separate Analytics tab where you can view a summary of the submissions.
